From Palm Trees to Antarctic Ice: The Byrd Expedition at Pitcairn Island, 1939

Edited by Everett L. Parker

The Pitcairn Islands Study Group is proud to announce publication of From Palm Trees to Antarctic Ice: The Byrd Expedition at Pitcairn Island, 1939. This important book brings together several articles and new information about the visit of the Admiral Richard E. Byrd Expedition to Pitcairn Island during his third trip to Antarctica. This is an exciting and vibrant story which still has secrets to be told more than 60 years later.

Here, for the first time, is an exhaustive and comprehensive look at the events which occurred during and after the unexpected visit to the romantic island made famous by the Mutiny on the Bounty. The story is told by eminent philatelists who have examined all of the evidence that remains, primarily in postal history. The book contains articles by the following philatelists: Dr. Hal Vogel, a recognized professional philatelist and writer who led the way with ground breaking new information about the expedition; the late Ralph Badagliacca, a knowledgable longtime student of both Pitcairn postal history and the story of the Byrd Expedition, as well as being one of the early members of PISG; Steve Pendleton, PISG Director and a well known philatelic author who has been published in many philatelic journals; and Maurice Fishler, a longtime student of the Byrd Expedition. The book is edited by Dr. Everett L. Parker, former PISG president and former editor of the Pitcairn Log.

54 pages, 8.5 x 11.0 inch softbound, saddle stitched, cardstock cover.
